Woman tries to deliver heroin-filled sandwich to boyfriend at Lynn Police Station

LYNN — A woman was arrested after attempting to deliver a heroin-filled hoagie to her boyfriend, who was in custody at the Lynn Police Station, Tuesday night.

Thinking that nearby officers could not understand Spanish, the prisoner, Marco Roman had tried to initiate the drug transaction over the phone, by asking the person on the other line to bring him some food and “a gram,” Lynn Police Lt. Michael Kmiec said.

“He just said, ‘I’m hungry. One gram,”‘ said Kmiec.

Unfortunately for Roman, 24, one of the officers in earshot spoke Spanish and overheard his whole side of the conversation, Kmiec said.

“A woman came to the front desk of the station with a sub for the individual,” said Kmiec. “Officers checked it and inside of the sub was a plastic twist which contained what they believed to be heroin.”

The woman, Brenda Sanchez, 36, of Lynn, was arrested at the front desk after officers discovered about a gram of heroin inside the chicken kabob sub. She was charged with Class A drug distribution and conspiracy to violate the drug law, Kmiec said.

Roman, a Lynn resident, was subsequently charged with conspiracy to violate the drug law, which was added to the other charges that he had already been arrested for, Kmiec said.

“The officers did a good job by paying attention to the phone call and taking initiative,” said Kmiec. “It’s certainly not something we see on a regular basis. It’s not often we have food brought to the station, but obviously when we do (get it), we’re diligent about checking it. This gave us more reason to do so.”

As for the man’s hunger, Kmiec said he definitely did not get the heroin, but he wasn’t sure if he ended up getting the sandwich.
