The No. 3 Bishop Fenwick volleyball team kept its strong season going Tuesday evening, notching a 3-0 win over No. 6 Arlington Catholic in the CCL Cup quarterfinal. The Crusaders won the back-and-forth match by set scores of 25-22, 25-18, 25-22).
“There were a lot of long rallies and a lot of tough points out there,” said Fenwick coach Samantha Kelly. “This is the third time we’ve seen Arlington Catholic this year and it’s been a battle each time, so we knew it wouldn’t be any different this time around.”
Fenwick was led by the strong play of senior libero Sophia Pregent, who notched 21 digs in the victory.
“She really stood out for us all game long,” Kelly said of Pregent.
Fenwick (9-2) now moves on to the CCL Cup semifinal, where the Crusaders will take on No. 2 Austin Prep Thursday afternoon (4).
GIRLS SOCCER
Swampscott 4, Salem 1
The Big Blue closed out the season on a high note Tuesday, notching a convincing win over their Northeastern Conference foe at Blocksidge Field.
Swampscott had four different goal scorers in the win, with Sophie DiGrande, Reese Robertson, Thea Spellios and Victoria Quagrello each notching a tally.
The Big Blue close out the shortened 2020 season at 4-4-2.
“It was an enjoyable season considering the circumstances,” said Swampscott coach Ken Leeder. “The girls came out and worked hard every day and we played well when we had the chance. We had some great senior leadership and we’re going to miss them terribly, but we’re also excited for next year as well.”
Beverly 5, Saugus 0
Saugus wraps up its shortened 2020 season with a 3-6 record.
“It was obviously a tough year in a lot of ways, but the girls really worked through it and made the best of what they had,” said Saugus coach Chris Coviello. “At the end of the day, the girls just wanted to get out there and play. So even though we stopped and started a few times and had to deal with a lot of travel and things like that, we were just happy that we were able to get out there and compete.”
