LYNN — Girls Inc. of Lynn has received a $25,000 grant to support the organization’s expansion of its Eureka 2.0 program that allows the group to offer STEM education.

The organization is one of 27 in the Greater Boston area awarded for its efforts to fight poverty. The grant is being awarded by Life Science Cares, a Boston non-profit that connects life science-industry executives and employees with groups committed to alleviating poverty.

The grants total $755,000 and bring Life Science Cares’ four-year giving total to more than $3.8 million.

Girls Inc. of Lynn’s mission is to inspire all girls to be Strong, Smart, and Bold by meeting the needs of girls in the community, developing girls’ capacity to overcome the effects of discrimination, be self-sufficient, responsible members of the community, and serve as vigorous advocates for all girls.

“Receiving generous consecutive grants from Life Science Cares has helped to expand our Eureka 2.0 program, which will allow Girls Inc. to offer critical stem education,” said Deb Ansourlian, executive director of Girls Inc. “(We) recognize that to advance toward a more equitable society, we need to lift today’s girls, who will be tomorrow’s women, out of poverty. It’s amazing to have a partner like Life Science Cares, who understands the importance of working with girls so they can aspire to STEM careers.”

Girls Inc. of Lynn is an affiliate of the national Girls Inc. model. It aims to inspire all girls to be strong, smart, and bold by meeting the needs of girls in the community, developing their capacity to overcome the effects of discrimination and be self-sufficient, responsible members of the community.

By providing girls aged 5-18 with after-school and summer programs tailored to their needs, Girls Inc. of Lynn has served as a vigorous advocate for all girls in the surrounding North Shore communities since 1942.

Founded in 2016, Life Science Cares was created as a platform for members of the life sciences industry to give back while also giving nonprofits the funds and volunteer power necessary to grow and innovate. This combination of connecting multi-year grants and volunteers to nonprofits that need both is the core value the organization brings as it works to decrease the ever-widening economic and opportunity gap in communities.

This year’s grant distribution culminates another year of rapid expansion and community impact. In addition to its annual grants program, since March Life Science Cares has led a multi-faceted COVID-19 relief effort to help Greater Boston neighbors facing challenges during the crisis, rallying 600 area biopharma executives and employees to raise $1.8 million granted to organizations that provide food, shelter and medical care.

“The Life Science Cares model is unique in that our corporate members’ support extends well beyond financial contributions to include volunteer engagement, strategic support and in-kind donations of goods or services,” said Sarah MacDonald, executive director for Life Science Cares. “This year, more than ever, it is an honor to invest in our partners working tirelessly to provide food, housing, education and employment to our neighbors in need.”
