LYNN — A man was struck and killed by an in-bound commuter train at the Central Square station at 325 Broad St. at approximately 6:15 p.m. Sunday.
According to MBTA police, the man, whose age and identity were unknown, intentionally stepped in front of the train.
The man was pronounced dead as a result of injuries sustained. Transit Police detectives, along with Lynn PD remained on the scene to investigate
Foul play was not suspected, according to Richard Sullivan, superintendent of the Transit Police Department.
The site of the mishap is the same spot where, in November 2018, another man was struck and killed by a commuter train.
Despite the tragedy, the station was relatively empty and quiet Sunday night not long after the incident. Aside from a woman standing at the foot of an entrance that was blocked off by crime scene tape, who was waiting to be allowed onto the train tracks for her ride, the station was a ghost town.
Lynn Police, Transit Police and representatives from Keolis were congregated on train tracks following the suicide and train service was expected to resume by 8 p.m.
