Distribution of the Thursday, Dec. 17, edition of The Item was negatively impacted due to equipment issues with the printer in Auburn, exacerbated further by the weather. Therefore, some subscribers did not receive their newspapers.
“We had production delays related to equipment issues and short staffing compounded by the weather,” said Mike Niland, New England vice president of operations at Gannett, which prints the paper.
Because of technical issues in Auburn, the papers were late leaving the printing plant. That, as well as the reduction of the speed limit on the Massachusetts Turnpike to 10 mph, resulted in the delivery truck arriving late to the paper’s distributor.
Those who did not receive their papers today will receive them Friday, along with the regular edition. Subscribers to The Item can access the e-edition of the paper free of charge. It is available on the itemlive.com website.
