SALEM — A 20-year-old Wakefield man who was stabbed multiple times in a fight in Salem Sunday night has been released from Massachusetts General Hospital, police said.
At 7:38 p.m. Sunday, Salem Police responded to a report of a group fighting in the Point neighborhood at the corner of Dow and Prince streets.
According to Salem Police Capt. Frederick Ryan, the victim had driven up to a group of men on Dow Street with the intention of buying vape pens from them based on a post he had seen on social media.
Thinking that the men were selling the vape pens, the victim got out of his car and approached the group, Ryan said.
“He was looking to buy vape pens, he started to talk to them, and then they ended up getting into a fight,” said Ryan.
During the fight, the victim was stabbed multiple times. He managed to get back into his car and then drove to Derby Street, where he pulled over near the Salem Arts Association building, Ryan said.
“He took off in his car basically,” said Ryan. “When he thought he was safe, he pulled over (and) flagged down a woman who helped him call 911.”
The victim was transported to MGH, where his injuries were determined to be non-life-threatening, and he had been released from the hospital by Monday afternoon.
The victim spoke with detectives about the incident following his release from the hospital, Ryan said.
The incident is under investigation and no arrests had been made as of Monday afternoon.
