Winthrop went back and forth with Beverly all night, but in the end the Vikings were able to pull away late to secure their second win of the season.

Winthrop (2-0) hosts Peabody Thursday night (7:15).
“We’ve gone up against some tough, well-coached teams in Gloucester and Beverly, and Peabody will be no different,” Lowe said. “We’re going to need to clean things up and come out strong if we’re going to keep this up.”

“We battled hard the whole way and it was a great game,” said Winthrop coach Mike Triant. “In the end I think we might’ve just gotten a little tired, we were only running six guys and I think it caught up to us. But Beverly is a great team and they hit a bunch of shots down the stretch.”
