Lynn and Revere reported another spike in coronavirus cases and additional deaths on Thursday.
New cases were also reported in Lynnfield and Salem, but were not updated in several other North Shore communities.
In Lynn, 109 new cases and two additional deaths were reported to bring the city’s total caseload to 13,169 and its death toll 168.
A total of 2,051 cases are active in Lynn and 10,950 people have recovered from the virus, according to city data.
Lynn City Hall and other public buildings, including the library, will continue to remain closed until Jan. 31 while the community continues to deal with a surge in COVID-19 cases, according to Mayor Thomas M. McGee’s office.
City Hall has been closed to the public since mid-December, but has continued to offer services remotely.
City staff will begin to return to work in-person on Feb. 1. Two teams of employees will alternate between working remotely one week and in-person the next, according to McGee’s office.
The alternating schedule is aimed at limiting interactions and the number of employees in the building at any given time. All meetings and public interactions will continue to be virtual and contactless, McGee’s office said.
“The decision for a limited opening to the public, based on the safety of employees and the community, will be further deliberated and announced at a later date in February,” the city statement said.
In Revere, 87 new cases and three additional deaths were reported, which brings the city’s total numbers to 8,035 cases and 132 deaths, according to the city website.
Salem reported 42 new cases to bring the city’s caseload to 3,243. Sixty-three people have died from the virus, according to city data.
Four new cases and an additional death were reported in Lynnfield, which now has 765 cases and 24 deaths, according to the town website.
Numbers remained the same in Nahant (177 cases, six deaths), and were not updated in Marblehead, Saugus or Swampscott on Thursday.
Peabody had 4,958 cases and 249 deaths as of Wednesday, Saugus had 2,781 cases and 53 deaths as of Tuesday, Swampscott had 730 cases and 13 deaths as of Monday, and Marblehead (789 cases, 31 deaths) has not provided updated numbers since last Friday.
