PEABODY — Cross country skiing, snow-shoeing, full-moon campfires and outdoor fun and games at The Meadow at Peabody golf course are just a few of the activities being offered by the Peabody Recreation Commission starting this month.

With this week’s nor’easter depositing several inches of snow on the ground, now is the perfect time to get out your cross-country skis or snowshoes and take a memorable trek at Brooksby Farm.  For those without equipment, rentals for all ages are available at The Ski Haus on a first-come, first-served basis, cash or check payment only. The cost to rent ski or snowshoe equipment is $5 for children and $10 for adults.

Trails are open from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. Wednesday through Friday and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Hours are subject to change depending on weather conditions and the availability of snow. The Ski Haus is located on the right side of Brooksby’s Farm Store. If you have your own equipment you do not need to stop at the Ski Haus.

Full Moon Fires a guided, educational night tour through the Brooksby Farm orchards will be held on Friday, February 26 and Friday, March 26. Participants will learn many fun facts, including that full moons have been named since ancient times when it was common to track the changing seasons by following the lunar month, as opposed to the solar year, and they will also learn about the seasonal changes linked to the moon, as well as the meanings behind full-moon names.

Snow Moon will be February 26 from 6-7:30 p.m. February’s full moon is named after the snow on the ground. It is also called the Hunger Moon and Storm Moon.

Worm Moon will be held on March 26 from 7-8:30 p.m. Worm Moon is generally considered the last full moon of winter. It is also referred to as Lenten Moon, Crow Moon, Crust Moon, Chaste Moon, Sugar Moon, and Sap Moon.

Following each tour, participants will enjoy a fireside story and marshmallows.

Only two members per family will be allowed to attend. When registering, please list the names of both family members to ensure an accurate count. Due to current COVID-19 restrictions, the event will be limited to a maximum of 25 people.

The Meadow is offering two events during school vacation week. February fun with Kierstin and Moe will be held on Monday, February 15 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The activity will be action-packed, complete with adventure, outdoor activities, a craft and much more. The cost is $60 per child and is open to students from grades K-5. The Meadow at Peabody Golf Course is located at 80 Granite St.

The Outside the Lines Art Program will be held from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Wednesday, February 17 at the clubhouse. Participants from grades K-5 will create unique art projects, play games and meet new friends. The cost per person is $75.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, space for both golf course programs is limited due to state guidelines. Early registration is advised.

Morning Madness with Moe for ages 3-5 will be held during the month of March at The Meadow. Two sessions are offered —Tuesdays from March 2-March 30 and Wednesdays from March 3-March 31. Both sessions run from 10-11 a.m. Indoor and outdoor activities include games, dance, arts and crafts and more. Children must be accompanied by an adult. The cost per session is $50 per child (residents) and $60 (non-residents).
