PEABODY — A two-family duplex sustained considerable damage following a house fire in Peabody Saturday afternoon.
Peabody Fire Department Deputy Henry Hogan said when emergency crews responded to a report of a fire on Lan Circle at around 3 p.m., they found flames coming from a closet in a hallway on the first floor.
“The fire was contained to a bottom hallway closet,” Hogan said. “We were able to knock it down pretty quickly when we got in.”
Hogan said the family was home at the time but was able to make it out of the building safely.
The cause of the fire wasn’t immediately clear. Cleaning crews were on standby to assist with what Hogan called “substantial damage” to the home’s first-floor hallway.
