REVERE — A fire in a triple-decker on Mountain Road Saturday night destroyed the building and displaced the six families that lived there.
“The building’s uninhabitable,” said Revere Fire Chief Christopher Bright to Boston 25 News. “The roof collapsed, and the rear of the building has a significant collapse and burn.”
The six families, 14 people in total, were all able to get out safely before firefighters arrived, according to Bright.
The fire broke out shortly before midnight. Firefighters fought the blaze through the night and were still at the scene at 11 a.m. Sunday morning.
All three stories of the building appeared to have sustained severe damage by Sunday morning, with the roof of the building collapsed, and large chunks of wall missing from the side of the building.
A firefighter was injured in the blaze, according to Bright, when a window exploded, shooting shards of glass into his hand.
The individual was taken to the hospital for stitches.
This came after a smaller fire on the second floor of a house on Revere Beach Parkway, which broke out at around 6 p.m. Saturday and was put down by 9 p.m.
“The fire station is right down the street here, a couple houses down, so the guys got here right away and got right to work,” Deputy Fire Chief Anthony Giampietro said.
This blaze forced the nine residents of the building to self-evacuate and everyone got out safely, according to Giampietro.
The causes of both fires remain under investigation.
Revere was hit by another significant fire this December, when a blaze at 54 Thornton Street left one individual dead and two injured.
This is a developing story.
