Lynn, Peabody, Revere, and Saugus are in the red for another week, but Lynnfield and Nahant are no longer deemed a high risk for coronavirus spread.
Marblehead, Salem and Swampscott are still in the moderate-risk category, or communities shaded yellow on the state’s COVID-19 map.
Lynn leads the local North Shore hot spots with a positive test rate of 8.19 percent, which is eighth highest in the state over the past 14 days, according to the state Department of Public Health.
While Lynn’s positive test rate is still 2.5 times higher than the state average of 3.4 percent, there is room for optimism as the city’s rate continues to fall each week. The positive test rate was 9.12 percent last week, the DPH reported.
In Lynn, the daily incidence rate, which denotes how many cases communities are averaging each day, also continues to decrease. The city’s rate is 57.2 new cases per 100,000 residents this week, which is significantly lower than last week when it was 71.2, the DPH reported.
The city reported 49 new cases on Friday to bring its caseload to 15,132. Of that total, 988 cases are active, 187 people have died, and 13,957 people have recovered from the virus, according to city data.
Revere, another COVID-19 hot spot, reported 24 new cases and five additional deaths to bring the city’s total numbers to 9,265 cases and 146 deaths, the city website reported.
While its positive test and daily incidence rates still remain high, like Lynn, both numbers continued to fall in Revere this week. Revere’s positive test rate decreased from 8.98 to 7.11 percent, and its daily incidence rate declined from 74.5 to 55.5 new cases per 100,000 residents, the DPH reported.
In Peabody, 58 new cases have been reported since Wednesday to bring the city’s caseload to 5,905. A total of 283 people have died and 5,101 have recovered from the virus, according to the health department.
Peabody’s positive test and daily incidence rates also declined this week, from 5.98 to 4.76 percent and 52.2 to 36 new cases per 100,000 residents, according to the DPH.
In Saugus, which had 3,382 cases and 63 deaths as of Thursday, both rates also declined. The town’s positive test rate decreased from 7.88 to 6.15 percent, and its daily incidence rate fell from 72 to 51.7 new cases per 100,000 residents this week.
New virus cases were also reported in Lynnfield, Marblehead, Nahant, and Salem on Friday, but were not updated in Swampscott, which had 893 cases and 16 deaths as of Thursday.
Seven new cases were reported in Lynnfield (957 cases, 28 deaths), 40 new cases have been reported in Marblehead (1,110 cases, 31 deaths) since last Friday, Nahant (220 cases, six deaths) reported five new cases, and 12 more cases were reported in Salem (3,897 cases, 69 deaths).
