LYNN — A retired Lynn police lieutenant and former Lynn English football coach has pleaded not guilty to charges of domestic assault and battery, Essex County District Attorney spokeswoman Carrie Kimball confirmed.
Peter Holey, 57, of Salem, was arrested Friday after Salem Police received a call from the ex-husband of a woman Holey had dated, who stated his ex-wife had called him for help from inside a locked bedroom in her apartment, the DA’s office said.
According to Kimball and Assistant District Attorney April Pagliarulo, the ex-husband said he could hear Holey banging on the door and yelling sexually explicit demands.
The woman told officers dispatched to the scene that after a day of drinking, Holey had brought another person to the home and told the woman he wanted to engage in sexual activity with both her and the other person. An argument erupted after she refused, prosecutors said.
Officers reported seeing a cut under the woman’s eye and blood on her head.
Pagliarulo requested that Judge Carol-Ann Fraser set bail at $10,000 and order Holey to wear a GPS bracelet. However, Holey, who retired as a lieutenant from the Lynn Police Department in 2019 and works part-time at Lynn Public Schools, has since been released on his own recognizance, the DA’s office said.
Holey must wear an alcohol monitoring device and will be subjected to random drug testing. He has also been ordered by a Salem District Court judge to notify Lynn Public Schools of his arrest, the DA’s office said.
His lawyer, Michael Splaine, stressed his client’s lack of any prior record and referred to his long career as a Lynn police officer.
Holey is due back in Salem District Court for a pre-trial hearing on April 23.
