LYNN — The No. 3 St. Mary’s girls hockey team put it all together in the CCL Cup quarterfinal Saturday night, rolling to a 6-0 victory over No. 6 Archbishop Williams at Connery Rink.
“This was a good team win against a solid league opponent,” said St. Mary’s coach Frank Pagliuca. “A lot of players contributed to this win for us, which is always great to see.”
Marina DiBiasio led the way for St. Mary’s with three goals, while Maggie Pierce notched two goals and four assists. Jenna Chaplain added two goals and three assists, Samantha Porazinski had two goals and two assists and Felicia D’Alessandro had one goal and two assists. Makayla McGrath, Caitlyn O’Donnell, Hannah Coleman, Aria Kader and Cara Donato each had one assist. Goalies Angelina Catino, Rhylee Smith and Gianna Tringale combined to earn the shutout in net.
“It was really great to get everybody in the game, and it was especially nice to get all three goalies into the game since this might be our last home game of the year,” said Pagliuca.
Pierce got things started for the Spartans with a goal just one minute into the game, then DiBiasio netted two of her own to put St. Mary’s ahead 3-0 at the first intermission.
In the second period, St. Mary’s blew the game open behind two goals from Chaplain and another from Porazinski.
Leading heavily in the third period, the Spartans continued to add to their lead as DiBiasio completed her hat trick and both Porazinski and D’Alessandro found the back of the net.
St. Mary’s (12-2-3) will now take on No. 2 Austin Prep in the CCL Cup semifinal Wednesday night (7:30). The two teams have already met three times this season, with the Spartans losing to the Cougars once and tying them in the other two meetings.
“I was very proud of our effort (Saturday), and we’re looking to continue that level of play going forward,” said Pagliuca. “We’re really looking forward to playing Austin Prep for the fourth time on Wednesday.”
