February 19, 2021 by Gayla Cawley

New coronavirus cases were reported in Lynn, Peabody, Revere, and Saugus on Friday, which are all in the red for another week.

The four communities have consistently been designated as having a high risk for COVID-19 spread throughout the pandemic.

In Lynn, 31 new cases were reported to bring the city’s caseload to 15,344. Of that total, 449 cases are active, 192 people have died, and 14,703 have recovered from the virus, according to city data.

While the city’s positive test rate is still more than 2.5 times higher than the state average, it continued to drop this week. The positive test rate in Lynn declined from 8.19 to 6.89 percent this week, and its daily incidence rate also decreased, from 57.2 to 43.7 new cases per 100,000 residents, according to the state Department of Public Health (DPH).

Peabody has reported 55 new cases and four additional deaths since Wednesday, which brings its total numbers to 6,067 cases and 289 deaths. The city’s positive and daily incidence rates also fell slightly, from 4.76 to 4.69 percent, and 36 to 35.5 new cases, respectively, the city and DPH reported.

In Revere, 23 new cases were reported to bring its caseload to 9,409. The city’s death toll is 146, according to the city website. The DPH reported a decline in the positive and daily incidence rates in Revere as well this week, which decreased from 7.11 to 5.77 percent, and 55.5 to 46.3 new cases, respectively.

Sixty-eight new cases have been reported in Saugus since last Thursday, which now has 3,450 cases and 63 deaths. The town’s positive and daily incidence rates also declined, from 6.15 to 5.01 percent, and 51.7 to 40.6 new cases, respectively, according to town and DPH data.

New cases were also reported in Lynnfield, Nahant, and Salem on Friday, but numbers were not updated in Marblehead or Swampscott.

Lynnfield (981 cases, 29 deaths) and Nahant (222 cases, six deaths) each reported two new cases, and Salem (3,999 cases, 72 deaths) reported 23 new cases.

As of Thursday, Marblehead had 1,137 cases and 31 deaths, and Swampscott had 919 cases and 16 deaths.
