BOSTON — One of two men killed in a downtown construction accident Wednesday morning has been identified as Lynn resident Jordan Romero.
WCVB reported that Romero’s family had identified him as one of the victims. Romero, 27, was a recently-married father of two.
“My brother was just an amazing person, looked out for everybody, loved his family, loved his children and it’s really sad to see him gone,” Romero’s sister, Leslie Villalobos, told WCVB.
The incident is being investigated by the Boston Police Department, the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
Police responded at approximately 8 a.m. to the downtown construction site at 190 High St. after receiving reports of a pedestrian struck by a truck. The truck was lifted by a crane off of a trench at the site, where the two men’s bodies were found.
It is unclear at this time how the accident occurred.
“My heart is heavy as we send our thoughts and prayers to the families and loved ones grieving their loss after this morning’s tragic incident,” said Boston Mayor Marty Walsh in a statement. “I’m heartbroken that two hardworking people lost their lives so suddenly and tragically this morning, and we will work tirelessly to understand how this happened in order to create safer conditions in the future.”
Walsh said that the city has suspended operations for Atlantic Coast Utilities, the construction company in control of the site, at its only other current permitted site in Boston during the investigation.
The other victim was identified by WCVB as 32-year-old Carlos Guittierrez.
