Celso Esteban, 32, was left in critical condition after he was assaulted in Lynn on February 10.

Peabody man charged in violent Lynn attack

LYNN — Jeffrey Suazo, 31, of Peabody, has been charged in a violent attack that left a Lynn man hospitalized, according to Boston 25 News.

Celso Esteban, 32, was left in critical condition following the apparently random February 10 attack, which occurred the week after he became a father to a newborn.

Esteban and his family had immigrated to Lynn from Guatemala, in search of a better life, and had been employed as landscapers.

Now, his family told Boston 25 News, he is “making progress and finally talking little by little.”

His family is seeking financial assistance through their GoFundMe page to deal with hospital bills and other expenses related to the assault.

Esteban’s attack was the second that Suazo has been charged in from the same night.

The first attack occurred around 5:30 p.m., when a 29-year-old woman walking in the area of Market Square in Lynn was attacked from behind and struck, possibly with a bat, police said.

Then, minutes later around the corner, police reported that Esteban was attacked from behind in a similar way on Western Avenue, where he was struck over the head, possibly also with a bat.

According to Police Lt. Michael Kmiec, the victim in the first attack is expected to make a full recovery.

Suazo was arrested in Market Square at 7:14 p.m. that night, on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon in the first case, but police were not able to link the two crimes until now.

Lynn Police recovered a baseball bat in Suazo’s motor vehicle shortly after he was arrested.

Suazo was initially arraigned in Lynn District Court on February 11 for the first attack and was arraigned earlier this week on the new charges of assault to murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

He has been in custody since his first court appearance.
