LYNN — Firefighters responded to a call at around 11:30 a.m. Saturday regarding a minor fire underneath the rear porch of 25 Henry Ave., which they were able to put down before it spread to the home.
There were no injuries.
According to Lynn Fire Capt. Joseph Zukas, the small blaze was likely started by a poorly disposed of cigarette.
“This is another fire caused by smoking cigarettes,” said Zukas. “And if it wasn’t put out quickly it could have been another one of these big fires.”
He reported that a “rash of fires” recently had been caused by cigarettes, citing at least four incidents in 2021.
He speculated that these fires might have been caused by people smoking cigarettes purchased from out of state, which do not have the same fire safety requirements as those purchased in Massachusetts.
