The Lynnfield volleyball team kept up its strong start to the season with another victory Wednesday evening, notching a 3-0 win over Cape Ann League foe Triton on the road. The Pioneers won by set scores of 25-18. 25-13, 25-9.
βIt was a little bit of a slow start for us again, and it took us maybe 16 or 17 points before we really started to settle in,β said Lynnfield coach Brent Ashley. βThis group is so coachable, and everything we worked on in practice showed up in the match today.β
Sophomore Ella Gizmunt had another big match with 12 kills, eight aces and two blocks, while senior Ava Buonfiglio contributed eight digs, seven aces, four kills and two blocks.
Lynnfield (2-0) hosts Ipswich Wednesday (5:30) for its home opener.Β
βItβs always great to play in our home gym and I think that itβs going to be extra exciting this year,β said Ashley. βIpswich is always a scrappy team and we know weβre going to get their best shot, so weβve got a few days to work on things and weβll try to come out strong.β
BOYS SOCCER
Tech 1, Northeast 0
Just two days after falling to Commonwealth Athletic Conference foe Northeast 5-1, Tech looked like a new team in a rematch on Wednesday night. The Tigers stepped up on the defensive side and earned a 1-0 win on the road.
“It absolutely felt good to get the win (Wednesday),” Tech coach Eric Moreno Sr. said. “We made a couple changes and overall really just played better to get the win at their place.”
Ninth grader Gregoire Amissi scored the lone goal for the Tigers.
“Gregoire worked really hard to get that goal and he was able to capitalize,” Moreno said. “He scored with about 25 minutes left in the second half and from then on we were able to defend and control the ball more. It was a really good game all around, it felt like a playoff game.”
Goalkeepers William Martinez and Pedro Bamanca (both eighth graders) split time in net for the shutout.
“Both of them were big in net,” Moreno said of the goalkeepers. “They’re both a part of that big group of eighth and ninth graders that really stepped up for us.”
Tech (1-1) plays on the road at Nashoba Monday afternoon (4).

βMost of our team is made up of players who have never played the sport before or have never played in a team setting, so they are still figuring out positioning and things like that,β said KIPP coach Chelsea Abplanalp. βThey were very positive after the game and were very proud of the improvement they saw and the increase in communication on the field.β
KIPP (0-2) does not currently have another game scheduled until March 29 against Tech.
βWe are looking forward to taking the next few weeks to practice and improve even further so that we are in a good spot to take on Tech,β said Abplanalp.
