America matters to Biden

our-opinion

March 15, 2021 by our-opinion

To the editor:

A day after President Biden’s March 11 address to the nation, there’s no longer any doubt about this man’s competence. Only a person with years of government experience, and the ability to continually learn from past mistakes and missteps while simultaneously standing in the present could do what we’re witnessing.

In 50 days, the president and his equally competent team assessed, planned and executed a massive response as monumental as the problem itself. Clear-eyed and determined, every lever of power in our federal government has been pulled to save the American people.

Witnessing this administration’s dedication to putting this virus to bed has repercussions. A glaring light shines backward on the previous occupant’s malevolence, incompetency and arrogant ignorance.

President Biden, Vice President Harris and their respective teams are proving government can work. Bureaucracies, even the biggest one on the planet, if headed by capable hands along with well placed skill at the department level, can result in swift action.

Here’s a consortium of men and women equipped with earned subject matter expertise coming to Washington to do “good.” No plots to rip off the federal treasury. No spewing of half-baked conspiracy theories. Gone is the unwillingness to tell the American people the truth.

Joe Biden is proving “know-how” matters. Really matters. Being president is hard. Really hard. It requires a vast and deep knowledge of government. It requires serious management capabilities.

For a man on his final tour, I’m amazed by how fully he stands in the here and now.

I realize I’m going on and on like a fan girl. And I realize I might be terribly disappointed in a few months, but for now … I’ve got a feeling I’d forgotten — optimism.
