LYNN — The Item’s own Carolina Trujillo will be honored Thursday by Amplify Latinx for her work in the local Latino community.

Trujillo serves as community relations director for Essex Media Group and is the publisher of La Voz, the area’s Spanish-language newspaper.

“I am incredibly grateful and excited to be receiving this honor,” Trujillo said. “I believe it is very important to use my platform as a way to empower the Latino community through information. My goal is to break as many glass ceilings as possible, paving the way for other Latinas to achieve their goals.”

Amplify Latinx is an advocacy group and nonprofit promoting the voices and interests of the Latino community in Massachusetts by promoting civic engagement, economic opportunity and leadership representation.

The group will honor Trujillo and nine other Latina women in the state at their virtual Women’s History Month Cafecito event, to be held Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. The free event will also include discussions with Latina leaders in corporate, political and entrepreneurial fields, as well as live entertainment from celebrated Latina artists Bárbara Martínez and Yara Liceaga-Rojas.

“It is no surprise that throughout our history the numerous contributions by Latinas have been severely undervalued,” said Rosario Ubiera-Minaya, executive director of Amplify Latinx, in a statement. “Amplify Latinx strives to break down barriers, support Latinas on the rise, and create opportunities for recognizing and bringing visibility to the incredible work Latinas are doing in all sectors of our communities. We are thankful to be in a position where we can uplift and celebrate them.”

Alberto Vasallo, president and CEO of El Mundo Boston, nominated Trujillo for the award. He said that while some might consider Trujillo his competitor in the media field, he sees her as a colleague and kindred spirit.

“She’s very well connected. She’s part of the community, and that’s key,” Vasallo said. “She lives and breathes the community. That’s invaluable.”

More information and registration for the event can be found on the Amplify Latinx website, amplifylatinx.co.
