HAMILTON — The Lynnfield volleyball team faced what may have been its toughest test of the season Wednesday night, battling back and forth before earning a 3-1 win over Cape Ann League foe Hamilton-Wenham on the road. The Pioneers won by set scores of 25-13, 23-25, 25-20, 25-7.
Lynnfield got off to a quick start for the second match in a row, something that has been a focus for Ashley.
But after taking the opening set fairly easily at 25-13, the Pioneers felt the full force of a strong Generals team in the second set. Lynnfield held its own for the most part, but Hamilton-Wenham was able to stay just far enough ahead to take the second set 25-23.
The back-and-forth nature of the match continued right into the third set, with the two sides trading blows throughout. Eventually, the Pioneers were able to grab a small foothold — just enough to escape with a 25-20 set win to get back in control.
It turns out that was all Lynnfield needed, as the Pioneers rolled in the fourth set and took it easily to secure the match.
Lynnfield (6-0) hosts Pentucket Monday evening (6).
