MARBLEHEAD — The Marblehead football team didn’t leave anything to chance Saturday afternoon, dominating from start to finish in a 42-6 victory over Northeastern Conference foe Saugus at Piper Field. The Magicians struck early and never looked back, controlling play on both sides of the ball.
Quarterback Joshua Robertson was the offensive star of the day for Marblehead, completing 15-of-18 passes for 161 yards and three touchdowns while also adding 60 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown. Running back Connor Cronin totaled over 100 yards from scrimmage in the win, catching five passes for 60 yards and two touchdowns and also rushing for 49 yards and one touchdown. Running back George Percy rushed for 60 yards and one touchdown, receiver James Doody had three receptions for 52 yards and receiver Liam McIlroy had one touchdown reception.
For Saugus, quarterback Donovan Clark completed 4-of-7 passes for 55 yards and one interception. Running back Sal Franco rushed for 43 yards and one touchdown, while receiver Javi Martinez had three receptions for 52 yards.
Marblehead got off to a fast start in this one, capping an early drive with a 13-yard touchdown run from Percy to go ahead 7-0. The Magicians took that 7-0 lead into the second quarter, where they tallied 21 points and ran away with the game.
It started with a 22-yard touchdown pass from Robertson to Cronin, then Robertson broke free and added a 30-yard rushing touchdown of his own to make it 21-0. Following an interception from Craig Michalowski, Marblehead set up deep in Saugus territory and finished with a six-yard touchdown run from Cronin to take a 28-0 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Robertson got things going with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Cronin to make it 35-0. He added one final touchdown pass in the fourth quarter, hitting McIlroy from eight yards out to make it 42-0.
Saugus finally got on the scoreboard in the final seconds, when Franco punched one in from two yards out to make it 42-6.
