SAUGUS — Saugus Community Television (SCTV) will receive $25,802 through National Grid’s Energy Efficient Custom Incentive Program for a Custom Lighting Package recently installed at the station’s 30 Main Street location.
SCTV Executive Director Bryan Nadeau said the new lighting package will help Saugus TV reduce its energy costs and consumption by saving roughly 85,000 kilowatt hours each year.
The package features “state-of-the-art” LED energy efficient lighting products — supplied by the Ockers Company and installed by lighting designer Jonathan Lipsy — for the Saugus TV production studio, Nadeau said.
“I am thrilled to be able to save both energy and money with this program,” Nadeau said. “We hope to come back to the town and request these funds be used to add a permanent camera setup in the kitchen for our new hit program, “What’s Cookin’,” which showcases local chefs, cooks, bakers, and cooking enthusiasts.”
Saugus TV, which moved to its current location from its spot at the old Saugus High School last spring, is operated and overseen by Saugus Community Television, Inc. and includes the town’s PEG (Public, Educational, and Government) cable access channels.
Because funding for capital equipment at the station’s new home inside the Saugus Historical Society originated from the PEG Access Enterprise Fund and was appropriated through votes from the Board of Selectmen, Finance Committee, and Town Meeting, the incentive has been deposited back into the PEG Access account for re-appropriation at a later date.
“This is a win-win for everyone,” Nadeau said. “SCTV is extremely grateful for receiving this incentive.”
