To the editor:
This letter is going to be a cheers and jeers letter in response to your commentary (Item, April 3), “Not doing the right thing for kids.”
Cheers to Mayor McGee and two of the seven members of the School Committee for their correct “yes” vote on ESL (English as a Second Language) licensure for kindergarten teachers, as recommended by Superintendent Tutwiler and ELL (English Language Learning) Director Rania Caldwell.
Jeers to the four School Committee “majority” members who frankly showed no backbone and shut the door on a portion of the school population with their “no” vote.
To those four members: When you look in the mirror every day, I hope you see the word “hypocrite” flash back in your face. Please don’t say you are members of the School Committee looking out for the best interest of all the school children. By your votes, you have just proven to everyone in Lynn you are not.
The best interest of the children is all the school population, not portions of the population.
Lynn is fortunate to have Dr. Tutwiler as superintendent — along with a dedicated staff — trying hard to introduce plans that will serve the entire school district and continue to make it better for all students kindergarten through 12th grade.
It is time Lynn voters go to the polls and elect members that will support a good education plan that enhances the future of all students.
I know I will work and vote for individuals who support nothing less for all students and staff. Let’s keep Lynn schools and the city moving forward in a positive direction.
