FOOTBALL
Danvers 7, Winthrop 6
The Vikings took their first loss of the season in a tough defensive battle at Miller stadium
“Credit to (Danvers coach) Ryan Nolan,” Winthrop coach Jon Cadigan said. “They had their kids ready to go. They played really tough.”
Running back Bobby Hubert had the lone touchdown for a Vikings team that stalled at the goal line several times.
“We didn’t convert in the goal-to-go situations,” Cardigan said. “We had them down there three or four times and only scored once. But it was an old school NEC game where neither team was giving an inch.”
Winthrop (4-1) wraps up the season next Saturday (12) when it hosts Masconomet at Miller Field.
