The Classical volleyball team started its season in the win column Monday, beating new Greater Boston League opponent Somerville 3-0 on the road. The Rams won by set scores of 25-12, 25-21 and 25-10.

Brook Warren led the way for the Rams with 27 service points including eight aces. Samantha Thoeun added 10 service points and five aces and had a pair of kills and a block. Chloe Clement had a team-high eight kills.

Warren got the Rams started in the first eight service points and closed things out later with six more and three aces to put Classical ahead 1-0.

Things got tighter in the second set but Warren once again closed things out with a pair of aces. Clement added a pair of kills in the frame while Thoeun had one.

Warren got the Rams started with seven service points to start the third set. Thoeun added another four service points while Clement had a pair of kills in the frame.

Classical (1-0) hosts Chelsea Wednesday (11:30).

VOLLEYBALL

Chelsea 3, English 1

The Bulldogs got off to a slow start in their opener losing by set scores of 8-25, 10-25, 25-22 and 19-25.

DJ Chim led the way at the service line with three aces while Dayanara Cabrera added two aces. Captain Merily Folestal had a great game in the middle of the court with six kills and five blocks (two for points).

“It was a slow start and it took a couple sets for them to find a rhythm and gel,” English coach Mike Haddad said. “But when seeing how they did come together in the third and fourth set gives me optimism heading forward.”

English visits Malden Wednesday (10).

BOYS SOCCER

Methuen 7, KIPP 3

The Panthers kept up with Division I Methuen for a majority of the day but fell short down the stretch.

Marco Escobar had all three goals for KIPP in the loss.

“We were missing quite a few players,” KIPP coach Jon Langlois said. “We usually have three players on the bench but two of them were hurt. It was quite the experience to play with pretty much what we’ll have in the team next year.

“The game itself was a bit chippy and there were some hard tackles but that’s what you expect when you play a Division I team.” Langlois said. “To stay tied with them at 3-3 for a while was good. It was a great game.”

KIPP travels to Methuen again Wednesday (4).

GOLF

Classical 48 1/2, Medford 25 1/2

The Rams stayed hot with an all around solid effort led by a pair of 6 1/2- 2 1/2 wins from Brady Warren and TJ Walsh. Matt Patrie also won his match 7 1/2-1 ½ while Ryan Dugan (7-2) and Daniel Finnigan (8-1) also got into the win column.

Classical (3-0) hosts Winthrop Thursday (4).
