To the editor:
It seems to me that police officers need to be retrained. They are too quick to shoot unarmed people of color and not to listen to cries of “I can’t breathe.”
A video clearly showed George Floyd’s suffering as a police officer knelt on Floyd’s neck for nine and a half minutes. People at the scene were screaming “Stop.” There was no need to treat a human being with excessive force.
People of color seem to be targeted. It happens so often that I think we are getting numb to the horrific suffering of our brothers and sisters, neighbors and friends.
I know it is a tough job to be a police officer. However, all of us need to be accountable for our actions. Lives are at stake. Black Lives Matter and we who call ourselves Christians should be heard. Systemic racism is wrong.
