To the editor:
Darren Cyr has done more for Ward 3 than any past Ward 3 city councilor. From the day that he was elected councilor, he hit the ground running.
I called him several days after his first election to complain about a derelict house on Jackson Street. This house was a hotel for rats and pigeons. My cat would catch a couple every night. I complained to our ward councilors for years and all we got was a song and dance about why the house could not be torn down.
Well, I called Councilor Cyr and several hours later he was at my house. I showed him what we have been living next door to for years. Within two years it was gone (purchased by the Lynn Housing Authority) and they put up a beautiful duplex.
The old Thurgood Marshall School on Porter Street was a real horror story. People were breaking in and living there. Gangs were hanging out at all hours of the night. Homeless built camps in the back of the building. Pipes were ripped out and water was left running. It was set on fire several times.
After each of these unfortunate instances, Darren Cyr took action to get the building boarded up.
He’s helped to get several ethnic restaurants in his district and throughout the city. He’s pushed for more affordable housing throughout the city and, as council president, he has led Lynn through the first quarter of the 21st century. Darren is like the Uber of politicians: call him and he’ll be there.
He even drops by my house now and then to see how everything is going. He keeps us up on the progress of what is happening with the old school on Porter Street.
Want a great mayor? On election day, remember Darren Cyr when you are in the voting booth.
