School Sports Roundup: English boys soccer falls short at Somerville

The English boys soccer team fell behind early in a tough test at Greater Boston League foe Somerville Tuesday and despite battling back in the second half, couldn’t make up for it in a 5-2 loss.

“We really got off to a slow start,” English coach Kerry King said. “It was 4-0 in the first half. We had a couple defensive breakdowns and lost our composure out there. But in the second half we did come out and score the first two goals and really make a game out of it.”

Those goals came from Allen Pablo and Joshua Chez. English had some more chances to make it a one goal game later in the second half, but fell short.

“Overall I was impressed,” King said. “We found our identity a bit more in that second half. We’re still trying to work out where everyone goes and what’s going to be our best fit going forward. But I’m impressed with the heart in the second half. The team really responded when they needed to and I think moving forward that can help us.”

Revere 2, Somerville 0

The Patriots got back in the win column a day after battling to a tie on the road against Classical.

“We were a little fatigued from (Monday),” Revere coach Megan O’Donnell said. “But we battled all the way and found a way to win in the final 10 minutes.”

Nahomy Galves-Martinez scored both goals for Revere while Carolina Carvalho-Bettero and Jackelynn Zapata both had assists. Goalkeeper Camila Perez Herrera led way in a strong defensive effort.

The Rams stayed undefeated thanks to a day-low score of 42 during a windy day at Cedar Glen Golf Course in Saugus Monday.

Stevan Downey, Patrick McCale and Sean Townsend all stayed undefeated this season in match play.

Classical (5-0) takes on Somerville Wednesday (4) at Kelley Greens in Nahant.
