Peabody, Revere report new virus cases, deaths

The coronavirus death toll continues to climb in Peabody and Revere, with each community reporting an additional death on Friday. 

New virus cases were also reported in Lynn, Lynnfield, and Marblehead. 

In Peabody, 21 new cases and an additional death brought the city’s total numbers to 7,149 cases and 317 deaths, the Health Department said. A total of 6,479 residents have recovered from the virus. 

Nine new cases were reported in Revere to bring the city’s caseload to 10,743. The death toll has climbed to 163 with the additional fatality, according to the city website. 

In Lynn, 15 new cases were reported to bring the city’s caseload to 17,392. Of that total, 255 cases are active, 214 people have died, and 16,923 have recovered, city data shows. 

According to city data, the vast majority of recent virus cases in Lynn have been among residents under age 40. Of the 182 new cases diagnosed between April 22 and April 29, 125 are residents who fall in that age range: 25 cases were seen in 0- to 9-year-olds, 28 were 10-19, 32 were 20-29, and 40 were 30 to 39. 

Another 26 cases were residents 40 to 49 years old, 21 were among 50- to 59-year-olds, nine fell in the 60-69 age range, and only one case was seen in residents 70 or older, with it reported among someone in their 80s, the data shows. 

In Marblehead (1,318 cases, 31 deaths), 12 new cases have been reported since last Friday; Lynnfield (1,192 cases, 29 deaths) reported an additional case; Nahant (250 cases, eight deaths) reported no change; and numbers were not updated in Salem, Saugus or Swampscott. 

As of Thursday, Salem had 4,649 cases and 80 deaths, and Saugus had 4,129 cases and 72 deaths. New numbers have not been provided in Swampscott (1,126 cases, 19 deaths) since April 20.
