EVERETT — Despite striking first in the game, the Lynn English boys soccer team didn’t quite have enough firepower to keep up the lead as the Bulldogs fell to Everett, 5-2, in a Greater Boston League bout at Seven Acres Park.
Junior Jalen Coriolan had one goal and one assist in the loss for the Bulldogs, while senior captain Ryan Lima scored one goal.
The Bulldogs came out strong right away, putting on some pressure early and earning a free kick opportunity about five minutes into the game. Coriolan took the kick, sending the ball into the Everett box to a waiting Lima, who got the ball on his left foot and buried the shot to give English the early 1-0 lead.
But Everett answered right back. The Crimson Tide got goals from Carlos Persona and Marcus Vieira over the course of a few minutes to go up 2-1, then Gui Moraes added a goal to put Everett ahead 3-1.
Coriolan got the Bulldogs back in the game just before halftime with a goal on a free kick to make it 3-2, but Everett still held the momentum at the break.
In the second half, defensive breakdowns by English allowed the Crimson Tide to score twice and keep the Bulldogs at an arm’s length for the rest of the game.
English (1-3-1) returns to action Tuesday evening (5) for a clash with cross-town rival Classical at Manning Field.
