NAHANT — Kristin Carmody has been appointed to serve as Nahant’s second assistant public health nurse.
She joins counterpart Anna McNicholas in aiding Public Health Nurse Deb Murphy with COVID-19 contact tracing and vaccine distribution throughout the Nahant community.
A 30-year Nahant resident, Carmody adds the position to her full-time work as administrative manager at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center’s radiology department, where she oversees the department’s 140 faculty and trainees.
“During COVID, I was really trying to find ways where I could help more directly,” Carmody said. “My current role is not patient-facing, but my roots are as a registered nurse, so I was trying to find ways to connect and help with COVID initiatives.
“That’s what prompted me to apply for this position, and to be able to do it in my hometown, I would like nothing more than to help my fellow residents.”
She received her Bachelor of Science in nursing from Anna Maria College last year.
“I’m looking forward to helping with COVID efforts, and to be able to do that locally with Nahant residents means even more,” Carmody said.
Nahant has seen a total of 250 virus cases since the pandemic began in March 2020, including eight deaths.
“Contact tracing and vaccine distribution has increased the demand on our public health department exponentially,” Town Administrator Antonio Barletta told The Item last month. “It is clear the town needs additional personnel to ensure a level of service that prioritizes the health of our residents.”
