LYNN — One of the city’s littlest residents is recovering after being rescued by the Lynn Fire Department on Tuesday morning.
The youngster — a tiny duckling — had tumbled into a deep storm drain on Federal Street after it was separated from its mother.
Lynn firefighters were alerted to the duckling’s predicament after stopping at Market Basket, where they encountered a local woman who was attempting to rescue the baby bird on her own.
Fire crews took over and “after about 20 minutes of effort, they were able to retrieve the scared duckling,” said Lynn Fire Chief Stephen Archer.
The duckling was turned over to the city’s Animal Control Department, which is working with a local animal shelter to find it a new home, Archer said.
