SAUGUS — Board of Health Vice Chair Shawn Ayube has resigned from his position as his family prepares to relocate from Saugus to Hopkinton.
“It’s been an honor to work with my fellow board and Town Meeting members to try to make Saugus the best it can be,” Ayube said.
Ayube, who also resigned from his Town Meeting seat representing Precinct 7, was first appointed to the board in 2017.
A native of the town’s Lynnhurst neighborhood, Ayube runs a startup biotech incubator in Boston and previously served as a volunteer coach for Saugus Little League and basketball. He has also participated in fundraising efforts for the Lynnhurst Fourth of July celebration.
Chair William Heffernan called Ayube’s resignation a “significant loss” for the town.
“Shawn was an integral member of the Board of Health,” Heffernan said. “He was, and I’m sure still is, passionate about the health and well-being of the citizens of Saugus. I wish Shawn and his family all the best in the future.”
Member Joia Cicolini called Ayube a “valuable member” of the board and also gave her well wishes to him and his family.
“I am sorry to see him leave, and I wish him and his family well,” Cicolini said.
A replacement for Ayube will be appointed by Town Manager Scott Crabtree.
