The Lynn Classical girls soccer team celebrated its Senior Night in style Tuesday night, shutting out cross-town rival Lynn English 5-0 at Manning Field. The win is the second straight shutout victory for the Rams.
“The team is really clicking right now and it’s awesome to see,” said Classical coach Mike Schena. “Everyone just trusts each other so much out there, and they’re all stepping up to make plays.”
Prior to the game, the Rams honored their group of four seniors — Kitty Mannion, Jessica Page, Mary Collins and Hannah Guthrie — for their contributions to the program over the years.
“If you look up leadership in the dictionary, there will be a picture of those four girls,” said Schena. “They’re all a tremendous part of this program, and they’ll truly be missed when they’re gone.”
Delaney Dana and Jayda Mateo continued their solid seasons with one goal each for Classical, while Maggie Nerich, Victoria Medeiros and Lauren Wilson each scored their first career varsity goal. Eliza Correnti added two assists in the win.
Classical (4-1-1) and English will now both begin preparations for the GBL playoffs, which are set to begin Thursday.
“We’re excited to keep playing and we’re ready for whoever is put in front of us,” said Schena. “If we can continue to play the way we have over the past few games, there’s no reason why we can’t make some serious noise in the playoffs.”
GIRLS SOCCER
