School Sports Roundup: Lynn Classical volleyball’s GBL playoff run comes to an end

The Lynn Classical volleyball team’s run in the Greater Boston League playoffs came to an end Thursday with a 3-0 loss to Medford. The Rams lost by set scores of 15-25, 9-25, and 24-26.

Samantha Thoeun had eight service points, with three aces. Chloe Clement finished with eight kills for Rams. 

Classical ends its first season in the GBL with a strong 7-2 record after tying for first place in the League through the regular season.

BASEBALL

Xaverian 4, St. John’s Prep 2

Peyton Palladino had an RBI for St. John’s despite the loss, while Nicholas Solitro scored one run.

St. John’s (2-1) hosts St. Mary’s Friday (3:30).

Marblehead 12, Danvers 8

Marblehead got the win in the back-and-forth game thanks to a six-run explosion in the sixth. Schuyler Schmitt led the way with a home run and three RBI and two runs scored. Matt Titus  went 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Marblehead totaled 12 hits, with six going for extra bases.

Marblehead (2-2) travels to Beverly Monday (4).

SOFTBALL

KIPP 16, Tech 8

The Panthers put together their best game of the year to grab their first win. Chelsea De La Rosa, who has walked just two batters in two games, pitched all seven innings for KIPP and went 5-for-5 with two triples, two doubles and a single. Jaynie Maestre also went 5-for-5, while Ava Woodard and Rebecca Unubun each went 3-for-5. Gabby Trejo, Emely Mojaica and Esther Agbebun also had key hits.

LeaNyah Pineiro had the big bat for Tech with a two-run home run in the third inning. Hannah Calef had 5 strikeouts. 

KIPP (1-2) and Tech (1-2) faceoff again Saturday. 

St. Mary’s 14, Masconomet 2

Alyssa Grossi continued her blistering start to the season on Thursday, going 3-for-3 with four RBI in the victory. Ang Catino (2-for-3), Brooke Moloney (2-for-4), Marina DiBiasio (2-for-3) and Julia Nickolau (2-for-2) all had multiple hits.

In the pitcher’s circle, Lily Newhall dazzled once again. Newhall tossed a complete game and struck out seven batters, keeping the Chieftains off balance all game long.

St. Mary’s (3-1) travels to Austin Prep Saturday afternoon (12).

BOYS LACROSSE

St. John’s Prep 13, Xaverian 4

Michael Kelly and Jimmy Ayers each had three goals and one assist in the win. Pat Ayers had two goals, while Tommy Sarni added one goal with three assists and Luke Surette had one goal with two assists. Charlie Danis, Charlie Wilmot and Lucas Verrier each had one goal. Tyee Ambrosh had one assist. Kaden Quirk made five saves on seven shots on goal.

St. John’s (3-0) hosts BC High Monday (5:30).

Triton 15, Lynnfield 3

John Briggs had two goals for the Pioneers, while Jack Calichman added one. Drew Damiani had one assist.

Lynnfield (1-1) hosts Hamilton-Wenham Tuesday (3:45).

Marblehead 22, Salem 0

Josh Robertson led the way for Marblehead with five goals and four assists. Matt Thompson and Baxter Jennings each had three goals and one assist. Mark Paquette had three goals.

Marblehead (3-0) is at Masconomet Saturday (12).

BOYS TRACK

Tech 92, Notre Dame Academy 27

Jordan Lee dominated for the Tigers, winning the long jump, high jump, 400m hurdles and 800m.

Isaiah Marshall won the triple jump, Junior Phem won the shotput and discus, Eali Sok won the javelin, Remy Chiep won the 400-meter, and Alan Barios-Robles won the one-mile

The relay teams of Michael Monbleau, Vincent Marino, Eali Sok and Isaiah Marshall (4×100) and Brian Zarate, Jose Hercules, Alan Barios-Robles and Bryton Osgood (4×400) also finished first to help Tech start the year 1-0.

GIRLS TRACK

Notre Dame Academy 84, Tech 53

Despite the loss, the Tigers got wins from Nyari Lane-Benjamin (400 hurdles), Amaya Williams (100), Miyoka Johnson (200), Meralis Ventura (shot put), and Melanie Ortega (discus). Angelina Castillo added second place finishes in the one-mile and the 800.
