The Lynn English football team ended the shortened season on a high note with a 48-7 dominating win on the road at Chelsea Friday.
Add in a win over rival Lynn Classical last week, and English wrapped up the season with plenty of success after an 0-2 start. The Bulldogs also sent their 15 seniors off on a high note.
“It was great to end the season the way we did,” English coach Chris Carroll said. “Grabbing a big win over Classical and then (Friday), we really sent those seniors off the right way.’
Quarterback Jesse Maggs and receiver DJ Brathwaite led the way, connecting on three touchdown passes. Anthony Timmons and Nick Messina both scored touchdowns, while Angelo Person also played a solid game. Two-way linemen Nolan Mulcahy and Ryan Dewan led the way upfront as usual for the Bulldogs.
“All our players, especially the seniors, played well Friday,” Caroll said. “I really want to thank them for all they’ve done for the program. Their contributions meant a lot to us.”
English finishes the season at 2-2.
FOOTBALL
Everett 42, Classical 14
The Rams dropped their final game of the season against GBL powerhouse Everett, but still had some big plays and battled wire-to-wire.
“I liked the way we fought,” Classical coach Brian Vaughan said. “The guys fought hard and played tough. When you’re playing a great program with Division I college athletes on the field, it’s good to see that the effort was there.”
Edgar Ramirez connected with Marquese Avery on a 64-yard touchdown and Brian Vaughan Jr. hit Kyle Durant one 20-yard score. Vaughan also had 100 yards on the ground, while Nico Galeazzi also ran the ball well. Orlando Concepcion Saldana also played well in his final game on the offensive and defensive line.
The Rams finish the year at 1-3 but have plenty to look forward to in the fall with a massive returning junior class.
“I think the positive for us this year is we were able to get a lot of our young guys in,” Brian Vaughan Sr. said. We were starting three freshman and sophomores on each side of the ball most games. We have a big junior class and they all got varsity experience. Down the line we think that’s going to pay off.”
Revere 48, Medford 32
The Patriots capped off a strange season in a wild game on Senior Night at Harry Della Russo Stadium.
“It was a wild one for sure,” Revere coach Lou Cicatelli said. “We had a 17-point lead at one point. Some of it was honestly a blur. All I know is it was back and forth all night and it was a three-hour game.”
Both teams traded punches in this one, with plenty of big-time plays including a blocked punt and touchdown by Dillon Day and a 20-yard interception for a touchdown by Cam Ventura.
Adetayo Atitebi had a great day on the ground with over 250 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Calvin Boudreau ended the season completing 11-of-14 passes for 160 yards and two touchdowns. Jarrod Natola was on the receiving end of both passing touchdowns.
Revere finishes the year with a 3-1 record, losing only to GBL foe Everett (4-0).
“It was definitely a successful year,” Cicatelli said. “We knew we had a good football team with 20 seniors. We wanted to be 4-0 but Everett was a buzzsaw. Without COVID, I think we would have been right back to make a run in the tournament.”
