School Sports Roundup: Swampscott girls lacrosse tops Saugus on Senior Night

The Swampscott girls lacrosse team celebrated Senior Night by staying undefeated on the year with a 17-3 win over Saugus at Blocksidge Field Friday. 

All four senior captains — Harper Clopton, Jordan Waters, Reese Robertson and Elizabeth Green — got on the scoresheet with two goals each.

But it was a team effort for the Big Blue, who had 11 different goal scorers.

Brooke Waters, Aubrey Bliss, Lilly Johnson, Jessie Ford, Eliza D’Agostino, Abby Eichler and Coco Clopton each scored one goal.

Despite the loss, Saugus had Marissa Patterson play well in the midfield and defensively. Georgia Fiore scored two goals for the Sachems, while Violet Hawley had one goal. 

Swampscott (5-0) is at Danvers Monday (4).

Saugus hosts Gloucester Monday (4).

SOFTBALL

Peabody 14, Beverly 5

Freshman pitcher Avery Grieco threw four innings, while Abby Bettencourt threw the final three in the win. Peabody had three home runs from Logan Lomasney, Isabel Bettencourt and Grieco. Lomasney, Isabel Bettencourt, Kiley Doolin, Penny Spack, Emma Bloom and Gino Terrazzano all had multiple hits

Peabody is at Marblehead Wednesday (4).

Saugus 6, Masconomet 3

The Sachems got back in the win column after a tough game against Gloucester to get the win on the road. Leah Ventre got the win on the mound, allowing six hits, three walks and two earned runs with four strikeouts while going 2-for-4 with an RBI at the plate.

“It was a great game,” Saugus coach Steve Almquist said. “And it was a nice bounce back after Gloucester.”

Leadoff hitter and senior captain Kirby Dalton also had a big 4-for-4 day at the plate, while her sister Kyleigh Dalton had a key RBI double. Fallon Millerick and Lily Ventre each had one RBI, while Cat Schena had one hit in the win.

Saugus (2-1) hosts Masconomet Tuesday (4).

GIRLS RUGBY

Lincoln Sudbury 18, St. Mary’s 6

St. Mary’s 18, Lincoln Sudbury 12

The Spartans earned their first win in program history, splitting a doubleheader with Lincoln Sudbury. St. Mary’s dropped the first game before grabbing the win later in the night. 

Ava Benzan scored once in both matches and Vanessa Latorelli scored twice in the finale.

BOYS TENNIS

St. Mary’s 3, Arlington Catholic 2

Coach Noah Hodgkins earned his first win at the helm for the Spartans who earned wins by Chris Wythe (6-7, 6-2, 6-0), Sean Mathers (6-4, 6-3) and Aiden Sullivan (6-2, 6-0).

St. Mary’s (1-1) is at Bishop Fenwick Monday (3:30).

Lynnfield 5, Rockport 0

The Pioneers had wins across the board in the win. Harrison Luba (6-1, 6-0), Jamil Khodr (6-1, 6-0) and Dan Levin (6-2, 6-0) won in singles play, while the team of David Kasdon and Jason Yang (6-0, 6-1) and the team of Rafik Khodr and Russell Kasdon (6-4, 6-3) won in doubles.

Lynnfield is at Hamilton-Wenham Monday (3:30).

GIRLS TENNIS

Lynnfield 4, Rockport 1

The Pioneers continued their hot start with Emma Gallucci winning first singles (6-0, 6-0) and the pair of Genna Gioioso and Gabi Mellor winning first doubles (6-1, 6-4). Ava Buonfiglio also got the win in second singles (6-0, 6-1), while Anna Radulski won third singles (6-0, 6-3).

Lynnfield (3-0) hosts Hamilton-Wenham Monday (3:30).

BOYS TRACK

Marblehead 93, Swampscott 40

Despite the loss, Swampscott had wins from Adian McMaster (110 hurdles, 16.9), Henna Domain (400, 55.2) and Joey Do (triple jump, 43’5″). The 4×400 relay team of Dillion Brawley, Michael Ferragamo, Matthew DeLapuente and Lucas Bereaud also earned the win.

Swampscott (0-1) is at Beverly Friday.
