Emely Rodriquez came through with a walk-off single to lift the St. Mary’s softball team over defending Division 1 South champion Bridgewater-Raynham, 4-3, in a back-and-forth game at home.
Rodriguez drove in Alyssa Grossi, who had reached on a walk earlier in the seventh inning.
“It was a good game and it had that state tournament feel to it,” Spartans coach Frank Pagliuca said. “Bridgewater-Raynham has a great program and it was well played on both sides. We were fortunate to pull it out.”
Marina DiBiasio (2-for-4) and Sam Porazinski (2-for-4, RBI) led the way at the plate along with Rodriquez (2-for-4). Jill Kirby made it happen on the bases, stealing home to put St. Mary’s ahead at the time in the sixth.
Lily Newhall pitched the whole game in the circle, allowing three earned runs with six strikeouts. Angelina Catino played well at third base defensively, as did Felicia D’Alessandro behind the plate.
St. Mary’s (6-1) is right back on the diamond Wednesday at Bishop Stang (4).
BASEBALL
St. Mary’s 14, Matignon 0
Deniel Ortiz continued his hot year at the plate, lacing a three-run home run to help lead the Spartans to the road win. Lucas Fritz led the way on the mound with four scoreless innings and six strikeouts.

GIRLS LACROSSE
Peabody 16, Winthrop 2
Hailee Lomasney had a monster game for the Tanners with seven goals and four assists. Amber Kiricoples and Hailey Baker each had two goals and three assists while Sophie Izzo had two goals and one assist. McKayla Fisher and Sam Rowe each had one goal and one assist. Siobhan Smith had one goal.
Emily McDonough, Lauren Woods, Jordyn Collins and Sam Silva all played well defensively.
Peabody (3-2) hosts Salem Thursday (4).
BOYS TENNIS
St. John’s Prep 5, Marblehead 0
In first singles, St. John’s Hunter Walters got the win over Mika Garber 6-2, 6-4, while Charles Kirby topped Jack Donovan 6-1, 6-1. The Eagles also got a win from Hayden Byrnes in third singles over Aidan Ryan (6-1, 6-3).
In first doubles, the Prep duo of Jack Kiely and Scott Daley beat Marblehead’s Kipp Schauder and Dwight Foster (6-0, 6-3). In second doubles the Eagles rounded out the win with Kurt Plakans and Ben Liptak beating Marblehead seniors Daniel Farfel and Thomas Dack (6-1, 6-1).
In sub-varsity play, Marblehead’s Christopher Thompson and Cooper Dalton lost 1-6. Matt Walker and Jack Fobert lost 0-3.
St. John’s Prep is at Catholic Memorial Thursday (4).
Marblehead hosts Salem Wednesday (4).
Lynnfield 4, Hamilton-Wenham 1
The Pioneers got wins from Jamil Khodr in second singles (6-4, 6-2) and Dan Levin in third singles (6-0, 6-0), while the doubles team of David Kasdon and Jason Yang won a three-setter (6-0, 2-6, 6-3) and the team of Rafik Khodr and Rusell Kasdon needed a 17-15 tiebreaker to win their set 4-6, 6-2, 17-15.
Lynnfield (3-0) takes on Newburyport Wednesday (3:30).

Anthony D’Itria was a double-winner after taking first in the high jump and the triple jump, while Tyler Cunningham (discus), Declan Dorgan (110 hurdles) and Jesse Moriello (400 hurdles) also notched wins on the day.

Kelsey Kwiatek ran a personal-best time of 5:45 in the one-mile to earn the victory Tuesday. Ava Benzan was a double-winner for the Spartans, taking first in the shot put and the javelin.
