SAUGUS — A woman is in serious condition after she was struck by a vehicle on Route 1 Tuesday night, State Police said.
Around 10:20 p.m., troopers from the Danvers State Police Barracks received reports of a pedestrian struck on Route 1 northbound on Broadway (Route 99). Saugus Police, Saugus Fire and EMS, and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation all responded to the scene, state police said.
State Police said the driver of the car involved — a 2018 Alfa Romeo SUV operated by a 45-year-old Lynnfield man — remained on the scene and was uninjured. The pedestrian, a woman who has yet to be identified, suffered “serious injuries” and was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
The Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction unit, as well as Crime Scene Services, were called to the scene to investigate; the vehicle was later towed from the scene, state police said.
The right two lanes of Route 1 northbound were closed for approximately two hours while troopers and medical personnel secured the scene. An investigation into the crash and attempts to identify the woman are ongoing, state police said.
