A pair of home runs and seven innings of pitching from Avery Grieco catapulted the Peabody softball team to a 9-1 win over Winthrop Friday.
Grieco had 10 strikeouts in the circle while only allowing five hits in front of solid Peabody defense. At the plate, she went 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBI.
Emma Bloom also had a big game, hitting 2-for-4 with one RBI. Penny Spack, Kylie Doolin and Logan Lomasney each drove in one run. Abby Bettencourt went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks, while Isabel Bettencourt went 2-for-3 with a walk.
Winthrop only had six hits, with four coming off the bats of Rachel Farley and Sydney Crotty. Crotty plated the Viking’s only run, knocking in Farley.
Peabody (6-0) is at Austin Prep (4).
Winthrop hosts Saugus Tuesday (4).
SOFTBALL
Marblehead 14, Swampscott 0 (F/4 1/2)
A 10-run second inning helped Marblehead cruise to the win in 4 1/2 innings with Lauren Donovan and Grace Martin splitting time on the mound. Donovan gave up just two hits and struck out five in three innings, while Martin allowed one hit with two strikeouts.
Ashleigh Maude led the way with three RBI. Jolie Quintana and Nadi Monahan drove in two RBI each. Maeve Sogoloff, Amelia Rogers, Ila Bumagin and Leila Walton all had one RBI.
Marblehead (3-2) hosts Danvers Monday (4).
For Swampscott, Riley Scanlon had two hits, including a double.
Swampscott (0-6) is at Saugus Wednesday (4).
