School Sports Roundup: Maddie Erskine scores 100th career goal in Marblehead girls lacrosse win

It was a day to remember for Marblehead senior captain Maddie Erskine, who picked up her 100th career goal in a 12-5 win on the road at Beverly Monday.

Erskine totaled six goals on the day to lead the Magicians, along with two assists and two ground balls. Gigi Lombardi had a pair of goals and ground balls with one assist, while Molly Forbes had two goals and one assist. Hadley Wales added one goal and three assists, while Sydney Langton one goal and one assists. Wales and Langton each had two ground balls. Fehr Gillett picked up three ground balls. Goalkeeper Elizabeth Driscoll was solid once again with 10 saves.

Marblehead (4-2) host Saugus Thursday (4).

GIRLS LACROSSE

St. Joseph’s Prep 10, St. Mary’s 8

A late push wasn’t enough to lift the Spartans to the win at Manning Field. Despite the loss, Peyton Quirk played well in net for St. Mary’s.

The Spartans travel to Malden Catholic Tuesday (4).

Danvers 15, Saugus 1

The Sachems showed improvement from their first game against Danvers, but still fell to their Northeastern Conference rivals. Kali Penachio had the lone goal for the Sachems, who also got solid defensive games from Elise Rego and Violet Hawley on defense despite the loss.

Saugus is at Marblehead Thursday (4).

BOYS LACROSSE

Pentucket 9, Lynnfield 8

The Pioneers fell just short to their Cape Ann League rivals despite a huge day from John Briggs, who scored six goals on 19 shots. Myles McKay had a team high four ground balls along with one goal and one assist. Jack Calichman scored one goal while Drew Damiana added one assist. Niko Marotta had 12 saves in net.

Lynnfield (1-4) is at Amesbury Monday (10).

Malden 6, Lynn 1

The Jets had plenty of new players on the field and despite the loss Nick Costa highlighted the day with his first career goal. Judens Prosper had 12 saves.

SOFTBALL

St. Mary’s 6, St. Joseph’s Prep 0

The Spartans got back into the win column with Lily Newhall striking out 12 in the shutout victory. Brooke Moloney, Emely Rodriguez and Anna Fringuelli all had a pair of hits to lead the St. Mary’s offense.

St. Mary’s (9-2) hosts Malden Catholic Tuesday (6).

Classical 13, Somerville 0

The Rams got their first Greater Boston League win thanks to an all-around dominant performance by Brooke Warren, who threw six shutout innings, allowing just one hit with nine strikeouts.

Warren also went 2-for-4 at the plate with four RBI. Lauren Wilson added a three-run triple and Mekayla Poisson and Rachel Dana each went 2-for-4 with one RBI.

Classical (1-1) host Chelsea Wednesday (4).

English 16, Chelsea 4

Ariana Laboy did it all for the Bulldogs, allowing just two earned runs and three hits with eight strikeouts in the Bulldogs’ first GBL win. And at the plate, she went 4-for-4 with a walk and scored four runs while adding five RBI.

Kelsey McNeil went 3-for-4 with two walks, four runs scored and one RBI. Ashley Martinez wasn’t far behind, going 2-for-3 with two walks, one hit by pitch, four runs scored and one RBI.

English (1-1) is at Malden Wednesday (4),

BOYS TENNIS

Somerville 4, Classical 1

The Rams lone victory came from Jimmy Phan in third singles (6-2, 5-7, 7-6).

Marblehead 4,  Masconomet 1

Senior co-captain Daniel Farfel had a key win in third singles (7-5, 5-7, 6-3) to lead Marblehead to victory. Freshman Mika Garber also earned the win in first singles (6-4, 6-0). The doubles teams of Kipp Schauder and Dwight Foster (6-4, 6-4) and Thomas Dack and Aidan Ryan (6-2, 3-6, 10-2) also grabbed wins.

In sub-varsity play, senior co-captain Christopher Thompson and Junior Cooper Dalton won 6-0 while Nate Bowden and Hogan Sedky won 6-3, 6-4 and Connor Shevory and Ben Nagel won 6-4, 6-1.
