Two Lynn high schools in search of new principal

Allysha Dunnigan

May 24, 2021 by Allysha Dunnigan

LYNN — Students at two of the district’s high schools will see new principals in the coming year.

Lynn English and Lynn Vocational Technical Institute are seeking applications for an individual with a principal’s license to take over positions currently held by acting principal Tessie Mower at English and principal Carissa Karakaedos at Tech.

English is in search of someone with five years of successful teaching experience at the secondary level and three to five years of successful administrative and/or supervisory experience at the secondary level, preferably in an urban setting.

The qualifications for principal at English, listed on the district’s website, include someone with a strong commitment to working on school redesign, the ability to perform and multitask in a highly-energized work environment and the ability to withstand strong public and professional scrutiny.

The district lists the goal of the principal at English as using leadership, administrative ability and human relations skills in the school’s daily operation to promote maximum student performance.

The final date for applications to be submitted for English principal is at noon on June 10.

Tech is in search of applicants carrying 10 years of full-time education-leadership experience in combination as an administrator, supervisor, teacher or counselor in vocational technical education.

The job posting lists Tech’s mission as providing the “culturally-rich and diverse student body with the opportunity to acquire vocational, technical and academic skills necessary to succeed in high-demand occupations and in further education.”

Applicants for principal at Tech must work collaboratively with other administrators to maintain this mission, while demonstrating thorough knowledge of the state’s curriculum for vocational schools.

The principal at Tech must be able to prioritize early student intervention and support to minimize drop-out, while assuming responsibility for supervision and overseeing staff, including evaluations, hiring, discharge and assignment of personnel.

The hours for the position at Tech are Monday through Thursday from 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.; Friday from 7:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.; Monday through Thursday during summer and school vacation from 7:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m.; and Friday during summer and school vacation from 7:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

Applications for Tech principal are due at noon on June 21.

Applications for both positions must include a letter of application — including a statement granting permission for community and staff review of credentials — a current resume, three letters of reference and documentation of education (transcripts) and experience.

These documents can be submitted to Talent Ed.
