Brooke Warren was nearly perfect Wednesday evening, striking out 14 of 16 batters faced and allowing just one base runner in a five-inning 13-0 win for the Lynn Classical softball team at home against Chelsea.
Warren recorded her 14 strikeouts in a row before Chelsea broke the streak with a hit in the fifth inning.
At the plate, Mekayla Poisson went 2-for-2 with four runs scored. Rachel Dana also went 2-for-2 with three runs scored, while Izzy Faessler was 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Classical (2-1) visits Revere Friday (5:30).
SOFTBALL
Winthrop 14, Masconomet 5
Coach Dave Guffey hit a huge milestone, winning his 200th game as the head of Winthrop’s program Wednesday in a victory over Masconomet.
The Vikings helped make it happen at the plate, with Izzy Mahoney leading the way with two triples, two RBI and four runs scored. Sophie Vitale was 3-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored, while Sydney Crotty had three RBI.
Vitale got the win in the circle, allowing 10 hits and five runs with four strikeouts. Nelly Carter pitched the final inning and had one strikeout. Summer Tallent finished the game at shortstop and made a pair of great plays.
Winthrop is at Saugus Friday (4).
Saugus 21, Swampscott 7
The Sachems once again got the bats going, with Devany Millerick going 2-for-2 with three RBI to lead the way. Gianna Costa and Ryann Moloney each had two RBI. Freshman Ava Rodgers was 3-for-3 with two doubles.
Starter Leah Ventre and Fallon Millerick combined for the win on the mound. Fallon also had two hits, including a triple, and one RBI.
Saugus (6-1) hosts Winthrop Friday (4).
BASEBALL
Classical 15, Chelsea 4
The Rams had two home runs off the bats of Ethaniel Almendarez (five RBI) and Aaron O’Connor (four RBI) to lead the way.
Wilbert Vidal, Adam Petereson and Darnell Leon (two) each got their first varsity hit.
Freshman Almani Madeina got another win on the mound.
Classical (2-0) faces off against rival English at Fraser Field Friday (4).
English 15, Malden 12
Trailing 12-8 going into the bottom of the fifth, the Bulldogs notched seven runs in the final two innings to pull out a come-from-behind win Wednesday at Fraser Field.
Luis Pina went 1-for-4 with three RBI, while Angel Gonzalez (3-for-4), Yordy Contreras (2-for-3) and Eldrian Bonilla (1-for-5) each had two RBI. Clodys Prandys (4-for-5), Enmanual Javier (1-for-3), Chris Figueroa Perez (2-for-3) and Jeremies Brito (0-for-3) each had one RBI.
English (2-0) takes on cross-town rival Classical Friday afternoon (4) at Fraser Field.
Swampscott 4, Winthrop 0
Nate Stern got the win on the mound, throwing six innings with 10 strikeouts while allowing three hits and one walk. Pierce Friedman closed things out with three strikeouts in the seventh.
At the plate, Connor Correnti had two hits and scored one run. Alex Greenfield and Aidan Graciale each had one RBI.
Swampscott (4-3) hosts Marblehead Friday evening (6:30).
Gloucester 10, Saugus 6
Jason Casaletto hit a home run for the Sachems in the loss, while Kyle McLaughlin led the attack with three RBI.

BOYS TENNIS
Marblehead 3, Winthrop 2
The Magicians got wins from Mike Garber (first singles 6-0,6-0), Daniel Farfel (second singles 6-2, 6-4) and Cooper Dalton and Nate Bowden in doubles (6-4, 4-6, 6-3).
Winthrop got a win from Evan Smotrich in third singles (6-0, 6-2) and Augie Cherico and Ari Han in first doubles (6-4, 5-7, 7-5).
GIRLS TENNIS
Newburyport 3, Lynnfield 2
The Pioneers got wins from Ava Buonfiglio in second singles (6-0, 6-1) and Anna Radulski in third singles (6-4, 6-3).
Lynnfield (5-2) hosts Ipswich Friday (3:45).
Marblehead 4, Winthrop 1
Jessie Munroe (first singles, 6-0, 6-0) and Tess Keaney (second singles, 6-0, 6-0) remained unbeaten on the year for the Magicians. Cannan Whittier defaulted her match due to an illness.
In doubles, Emily Clough and Lauren Podger (6-1, 6-0) and Lauren Saulnier and Ava Ullian (6-0, 6-0) earned wins
Marblehead (6-2) is at Beverly Monday (10).
BOYS TRACK
St. John’s Prep 102, Xaverian 34
Quinn Curtin (high jump 5’8″ and triple jump) and Jarret Young (100 meter 10.6 and 200m 21.6) both earned double wins to power the Eagles to the Catholic Conference victory.
Also winning was Nick de Melo in the 400 (52.8), Nathan Lopez in the 800 (1:57.9), Charlie Tuttle in the one-mile (4:31), Felix Rogovin in the two-mile (10:15), Jason Bois in the 110 hurdles (15.3) and Griffin Tache in the 400 hurdles (60.1).
Relay teams of Cooper Johnson, Dylan Aliberti, Stephon Patrick and Young (4×100, 45.5) and Owen Parker, de Melo, Declan Kelley and Lopez (4×400, 3:38.5) also won.
St. John’s Prep (3-0) runs against Peabody Saturday morning (9).
