LYNN — For their exploits both on and off the field over the past 12 months, Classical High School’s Brooke Warren and Nico Galeazzi have been selected to represent the school as its Greater Boston League Scholar-Athletes of the Year for 2021.
Warren has been a member of the Classical softball and volleyball team for the past four years. As a senior, she was chosen as the captain for both teams.
Her leadership skills are not only recognized athletically but academically as well, as she is ranked in the top 5 percent of her class with a GPA of 4.3 in a class of 359 students. As the chairperson of the National Honor Society, she has attained honor roll status for every academic marking period during her career as a Lynn Public Schools student.
Warren was nominated by the faculty to represent the student body as a member of the Lynn Classical Equity Panel, which meets weekly as a school as well as monthly at a district level. Her attributes both on and off the field were also recognized by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA), where she was selected as the female student ambassador representing Classical. This appointment recognizes commitment to the areas of community service, student leadership, sportsmanship and ability to perform as the liaison for her school.
Athletically, Warren has been an asset to both the volleyball and softball teams. As a leader in service points throughout her matches in volleyball, she has become a reliable player when it comes to serving the ball. Softball has been a part of her life since she was 9 years old, which inevitably contributed to her first varsity start as a freshman pitcher. Warren helped the team to the Division 1 state tournament and was named Classical Rookie of the Year after she pitched a perfect game that season.
Sophomore year, she was elected to the NEC All-Conference team, led her team to a conference championship, was nominated as a Lynn All-Star and received the Lynn Classical Defensive Player of the Year — while also qualifying for the Division 1 state tournament once again.
Warren will be attending Emmanuel College in Boston next fall and will major in biology, where she will pursue a career as a physician assistant.
Stemming from a family of Classical athletes, Galeazzi is familiar with the pride of representing the green and gold. The two-sport student-athlete just wrapped up his senior football campaign that was delayed until the spring due to COVID-19.
On the gridiron, Galeazzi was named a team captain and started on both sides of the ball as the Rams’ running back and middle linebacker. The Harold Durgin Award winner helped lead the Rams to the state tournament in 2019 and was a member of the 2017 Northeastern Conference championship team as a freshman that also had a state tournament berth.
On the diamond, Galeazzi is also a captain for the Classical baseball team. The Classical catcher played key roles in bringing the Rams to the state tournament freshman and sophomore year before missing his junior season due to the pandemic. During the 2019 season, the then-sophomore catcher was elected as an NEC All Star and helped the Rams take home the conference championship. Galeazzi was also a big factor in taking home a state title in 2019 for the Lynn Junior Legion baseball team.
Off the field, the two-sport captain takes just as much pride in his academics. Galeazzi maintains a 4.1 GPA and ranks 31st out of 378 students. Balancing a schedule of honors classes and an AP course, Galeazzi is a member of the National Honor Society. The senior also represented Classical as an MIAA Student Ambassador in his junior and senior years, where he met with other student-athletes across the state in order to better their communities in a variety of ways.
Outside the Classical building, Galeazzi takes pride in working with organizations like Lynn Parks and Recreation, Lynn Department of Public Works, Greater Lynn Babe Ruth, Pine Hill Little League, and the Carey Baseball Academy.
After graduation in June, Galeazzi will be taking the junior college route and playing baseball at Northern Essex Community College, and said he plans to transfer to a four-year school afterward.
