MILTON — A 25-year-old Lynn man was arrested Thursday morning in Milton on drug trafficking and assault charges after being stopped by State Police for a motor vehicle violation, state police said.
Judemario Josaphat, 25, was stopped at approximately 4 a.m. for not having a light to illuminate the license plate of the Mercedes-Benz sedan he was driving, state police said.
Shortly after the vehicle came to a stop, Josaphat attempted to exit the sedan, but was ordered by a State Trooper David Teixiera to to get back in. Josaphat then reportedly gave inconsistent statements about where he was traveling to before Teixeira noticed multiple cell phones, a large amount of credit cards, and packaging consistent with narcotics bundling scattered throughout the interior, as well as aftermarket wiring on the floorboard of the vehicle, state police said.
A query revealed that Josaphat was on federal probation for bank fraud, so Teixeira asked for permission to search the vehicle, which Josaphat granted, state police said.
When Teixeira touched a black bag in the car, Josaphat grabbed Teixeira’s hand and shoved him away from the car with his forearm. Josaphat then ripped the radio from Teixeira’s shoulder before Teixeira took Josaphat to the ground in a controlled manner, state police said.
Josaphat fought back, breaking his hands free from Teixeira’s grasp and returning to his feet. Josaphat repeatedly ignored Teixeira’s attempts to deescalate the situation through verbal commands until Teixeira got him to comply by unholstering his Taser and repeatedly giving commands, state police said.
Teixeira re-holstered his Taser without deploying it and was able to place Josaphat under arrest.
Assisted by Trooper Joe Connor and Sgt. Joseph Durning, Teixeira completed his search of the white Mercedes and discovered in a black bag more than 20 additional credit cards, numerous individually-packaged marijuana edibles, and, in three plastic bags, more than 380 grams of blue pills believed to be manufactured fentanyl and methamphetamine, state police said.
Josaphat was arraigned in Quincy District Court on charges that included trafficking in opium/methamphetamine over 200 grams, resisting arrest, interfering with a police officer, assault and battery on a police officer, disorderly conduct, possession with intent to distribute a class B drug, possession with intent to distribute a class C drug and number plate violation.
