SAUGUS — Residents, business owners and local organizations are encouraged to attend a virtual Planning Board meeting Thursday to give their input on the town’s draft Hazard Mitigation Plan.
The plan, which aims to reduce the town’s vulnerability to natural hazards such as flooding, hurricanes and blizzards, and increase the town’s resilience to the impacts of climate change, will be presented by the Metropolitan Area Planning Council (MAPC).
Attendees are invited to participate in the public meeting and provide their questions and comments as part of the town’s ongoing effort to plan for a more resilient future.
“We hope residents, business owners and local organizations will attend this meeting to learn more about the town’s draft Hazard Mitigation Plan and MVP project, and continue to ask questions and share their input,” Town Manager Scott Crabtree said.
In 2019, Saugus was awarded $33,000 by the state to put toward mitigating future flooding impacts on residents and the town’s infrastructure, as well as to update the Hazard Mitigation Plan, which was first drafted in 2014.
Last December, the town held a virtual public feedback session and workshop regarding its Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) project, which was planned and facilitated by a team of local officials, residents and the MAPC.
“The more we are able to learn about the community’s needs, the better this project will be for residents and the town for future planning,” Crabtree said.
The meeting will take place via Zoom on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Crabtree added the town is also welcoming written comments, which should be directed to Senior Planner Alexander Mello at [email protected]. Mello can also be contacted by phone at 781-231-4045.
