LYNN — For their exploits both on and off the field over the past 12 months, St. Mary’s High School’s Samantha Porazinski and Terence Moynihan have been selected to represent the school as its Catholic Central League Scholar-Athletes of the Year for 2021.
Porazinski has been a key contributor on the ice and on the field for St. Mary’s as a member of the girls hockey and softball teams.
Named a captain for the girls hockey team this past winter, Porazinski was one of the Spartans’ leading scorers en route to helping the team clinch the inaugural CCL Cup. She’s been a three-time CCL All-Star and has been named an All-Scholastic player on the ice for the Spartans as well. On the diamond, Porazinski is a two-time CCL All-Star and she played a key role in the early success of the 2021 Spartans softball team.
Porazinski supplements her athletic success with a strong academic record, being named an honor roll student and awarded for academic excellence in a number of subjects.
And of course, there is her community service record. In addition to being a member of various clubs such as Rachel’s Challenge, Hunger for Justice, Diversity Club and Arc Leader, Porazinski volunteers her time with charities like My Brother’s Table, Toy Drive, Miles for Kyle and The Giving Tree.
In the fall, Porazinski will continue her academic and athletic career at Assumption University as a member of the women’s hockey team.
Moynihan has been a player for all seasons at St. Mary’s during his time there, competing as a golfer in the fall, a hockey player in the winter and a baseball player in the spring. He’s seen plenty of team success with the Spartans, who captured the CCL Cup in both golf and boys hockey in his senior year.
As a sophomore in 2019, Moynihan was the Spartans’ starting left fielder during the team’s run to the Division 2 state championship. After missing his junior season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Moynihan was named a team captain for the 2021 St. Mary’s baseball team.
But Moynihan’s athletic prowess may only be overshadowed by his success in the classroom. A member of the National Honor Society from 2019 through 2021, Moynihan has a GPA of 4.23 and is a Scholar’s Program Honors student. He also commits plenty of time to helping out the school, as he is a St. Mary’s Student Ambassador Leader, a St. Mary’s New Student Orientation Leader and a St. Mary’s Hunger for Justice Leader.
Outside of school, Moynihan volunteers his time at places like My Brothers Table, as the Vikings Baseball AAU 14U coach and at Northeast ARC, in addition to helping feed the homeless in Boston during the pandemic.
Next year, Moynihan will be continuing his academic and athletic career at Division II St. Michael’s College as a member of the baseball team.
