School Sports Roundup: Lynn Classical baseball gets the bats going in win over Revere

The Lynn Classical baseball team got back in the win column, beating Greater Boston League foe Revere 15-4 in six innings on the road Thursday.

The Rams got the job done thanks to a pair of big freshmen bats in Darnell Leon (3-for-4, three runs scored and three RBIs) and Almani Medina (2-for-2 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI).

Senior Nico Galeazzi also got in on the action with three RBI and two runs scored while Christian Spates and Tyler Wilson each had two RBI and two runs scored. Aaron O’Connor added two RBI.

Knico Rameirz got the win on the mound, tossing four innings and allowing two hits, one walk and three runs while striking out four. John DiSaia threw the final two shutout innings, allowing just two hits.

Classical (3-2) hosts Medford Saturday (2).

BASEBALL

Danvers 4, Peabody 1

Ryan Knight had two hits and one RBI in the loss for the Tanners. 

Peabody (5-7) takes on Swampscott Friday (4).

St. John’s Prep 7, BC High 6

Thanks to an RBI single from DJ Pacheco in the bottom of the seventh, the Eagles walked off to victory in the annual Pete Frates Game Thursday afternoon.

Pat D’Amico, Shane Williams and Sam Belliveau each added one RBI in the victory.

St. John’s Prep (9-2) plays on the road at Catholic Memorial Monday (4).

SOFTBALL

St. Mary’s 14, Masconomet 3

The Spartans remained in firm control from start to finish Thursday thanks to another dominant pitching performance from Lily Newhall and Anna Fringuelli.

Offensively, Alyssa Grossi went 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI to lead the way. Roma Braid went 2-for-2 with one RBI, while Angelina Catino went 3-for-4.

St. Mary’s (13-2) has a quick turnaround with a game against Cardinal Spellman Friday (4).

Winthrop 14, Swampscott 2

Izzy Mahoney got the game started with a bang with a solo home run and went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI on the day.

Sophie Vitale had a no-hitter through four innings and allowed two hits, no walks and two runs with six strikeouts.

Before the game Winthrop honored its six graduating seniors — Nelly Carter (UMass – Boston), Mahoney (Ithaca College), Sydney Crotty (Mass Maritime), Katie Gagnon (Elon University), Rachel Farley (Fairfield University) and Vitale (Regis College) — for their contributions to the program. Last year’s lone senior Ashley McGongal (Salem State) was also honored to make up for the canceled 2020 season.

Winthrop is at Salem Wednesday (4).

Swampscott (0-11) hosts Salem Friday (4).

BOYS LACROSSE

Marblehead 13, Masconomet 4

Will Shull led the offensive attack for the Magicians with five goals and two assists, while Josh Robertson was close behind with four goals and three assists. 

Marblehead (10-0) hosts Gloucester Monday (4:30).

GIRLS LACROSSE

Triton 13, Lynnfield 5

Lynnfield (0-9) travels to Amesbury Monday (4).

Masconomet 14, Marblehead 7

Maddie Erskine had a big game in the loss with five goals and one assist, while Hadley Wales scored one goal. Elizabeth Driscoll had seven saves in net. 

Marblehead (6-3) travels to Gloucester Monday (4:30).

BOYS TENNIS

Classical 3, Revere 2

The Rams got some close wins in second singles (6-0, 6-7, 6-1) by Sami Motassin and first doubles (6-1, 7-6, 6-2) and won second doubles by forfeit to grab their first win of the season.

Classical is at Medford Friday (4).

GIRLS TENNIS

Classical 5, Revere 0

The Rams got the sweep thanks to singles wins from Kenzie McLaren (6-1, 6-1), Alyssa Raithal (6-3, 6-4) and Sabrina Motassin (6-0, 6-0) and doubles wins from Rania Merbah and Samantha Theoun (6-0, 6-0) and Khunnary Thach and Kyra Dominic (6-1, 6-1).

Classical (2-0) hosts Medford Friday (4).

Lynnfield 5, Triton 0

The Pioneers kept rolling with singles wins from Emma Gallucci (6-1, 7-5), Ava Buonfiglio (6-0, 6-0) and Anna Radulski (6-0, 6-0) and doubles wins from Emily Goguen and Lauren Graba (6-1, 2-6, 6-3) and Genna Gioioso and Gabi Mellor (6-1, 6-1).

Lynnfield (7-2) is at North Reading Tuesday (4).

Marblehead 4, Danvers 1

The match was played in a pro-set format due to the impending rain, and the Magicians shined. Winners for Marblehead were Jessie Munrow in first singles (10-3), Courtney Yoder in third singles (10-4), the team of Emily Clough and Lauren Podgur in first doubles (10-0) and the team of Ava Ullian and Leah Saulnier in second doubles (10-0).

Marblehead travels to Saugus Monday (3:45).
